French Toast Bake Recipe - Cast Iron Cooking |

Rediscover what our grandparents always knew; cast iron cookware produces mouthwatering food that practically slides out of the pan. This delicious oven baked French Toast recipe is much easier than cooking each indvidual slice on a skillet but tastes just as good with a hint of sugar and cinnamon. A great Easter breakfast recipe or a simple lazy week-end morning brunch.

Ingredients for a 10″ Cast Iron Dutch Oven that feeds 3 or double the ingredients for a 12″ Dutch Oven to feed 6:

1/2 (1/2 lb.) loaf French Bread
2 T. butter
4 eggs
1 1/2 C. milk
2 T. sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Maple Syrup, optional

Hi, Kristy in the Rada kitchen, today I’m making a French Toast Bake in my cast iron pot. People are rediscovering all about cast iron. You can have skillets, you can have Dutch ovens. You can make it inside, on the stovetop, you can make it over the campfire, so Rada came out with this Cast Iron Cooking Inside and Out. It has recipes for desserts, soups, and main dishes. So today I’m making a wonderful breakfast meal and it’s the French Toast Bake. I have a 10 inch cast iron pot. I sprayed it with a cooking spray.

So for this recipe you need a half pound loaf of French bread. And you’re going to tear it into one to two inch pieces. And then you’ll put that in your cast iron Dutch oven. This is a 10 inch one. And then you’re going to take four eggs. And a cup and a half of milk. Two tablespoons of sugar, half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon and a half teaspoon of salt and a half teaspoon of vanilla. And we’re just going to whisk this together. This would be a wonderful Eastern morning addition to your brunch table, a good cold winter morning breakfast, sometimes we even eat it for supper.

So you’re going to whisk this, it’s really easy with the Rada Handi-Stir, one of my favorite kitchen tools. Meanwhile you’ll want to preheat your over to 325 degrees. So now we’re going to pour this over our bread. Then we’re going to just stir that lightly. Once you have it lightly stirred add two tablespoons of butter that you’ve cut into pices, I’m just going to sprinkle that on the top. And now we’re going to bake this in that 325 degree oven for about 30 minutes or until it’s set. You’re going to bake that uncovered.
